Invasive Species Month in BC! 

The Greater Victoria Green Team and Sustainability Committee of Royal Roads University revitalized a large section of habitat on Royal Roads University campus by removing invasive Scotch Broom and Spurge-laurel (Daphne). 

A big thank you to Taryn, the Sustainability Committee Coordinator and Thomas, as well as Roberto of the Sustainability Office for helping to coordinate the event! Thanks to Jon for providing great information at the beginning of the event!

Thank-you to all of the amazing people for making a big difference and participating: Lori, Chris, Terra, Costa, Chris G, Mahbubulalam, Wenbo, Isabella, Yu, Olayiwola, Joy, Brittany, Jiatong, Xinyi, Tianjiao, Alina, Hang, Victor, Yuan, Zhiyan, Cynthia, Louise, and Cassandra.

Highlights

  • 23 volunteers were engaged and contributed 80 volunteer hours 
  • 6 of the volunteers had never been to Royal Roads before
  • 19 of the volunteers (76%) had never removed Scotch Broom before!
  • We removed 14 cubic metres of invasive plants!
  • We revitalized an area measuring approx. 600 square metres
  • We enjoyed a lunch buffet of build-your-own-salad! Thanks to Royal Roads Sustainability Committee for providing this!!!
