In honour of Earth Day, Lower Mainland Green Team volunteers dug up the root system of the invasive Himalayan Blackberry from Hyde Creek on April 22nd.
This activity was made possible by the City of Coquitlam – a big thank you to Elise, Brad and Lanny!

Highlights:
- 14 people contributed 35 hours
- The City of Coquitlam brush cut the Himalayan Blackberry canes, so volunteers could focus on digging up the blackberry crowns (root system) and making it tougher for the blackberry to come back!
- Residents in the area expressed how happy they were this activity was happening
- We removed 1 cubic metre of blackberry crowns
- We spotted many frogs in a pond beside Hyde Creek
